- New business priority
GTMA is actively seeking new business in the UK rail industry for member companies, having identified Rail as a sector heading for a decade and more of strong investment.
Among projects going ahead, despite the spending cuts in the UK, is the multi-billion investment in high speed rail and GTMA and our members are determined to be part of this exciting journey.
Transport Minister Phil Hammond has said he wants the industry to “build a domestic supply chain to support the project for over the 30 years of its life.”
GTMA is well placed to help fill the gaps in the supply chain as the high speed project and others are rolled out, putting strains by its sheer size on existing suppliers in the sector.
Experience within GTMA matches many of the supply chain requirements, covering:
•Specialist precision engineering
•Rapid prototyping
•Press tool and mould and die manufacture
•Material supply, including steel and alloys
•Composites
Some companies have already made their mark, including member Hadleigh Castings which was the first aluminium foundry in the world to gain the International Railway Industry (IRIS) accreditation. The company provides a full alluminium casting and manufacturing service and has been involved in the rail sector for over 6 years, with a large part of its production exported to France.
Rail is a sector which will come under increasing pressures in terms of cost:quality and the final report of Sir Roy McNulty’s Review of Value for Money on railways is eagerly awaited.
We are now in talks with rail industry leaders about this and other key issues and, as the Review findings are known, we will be drawing up the next stage of our strategy to ensure success both for our members, and how to help supply chain issues in the sector.
