A UK recycling and metals group which employs 650 people is facing an uncertain future after the final payment from a £195m (AU$399m) acquisition remains unpaid.
Unimetals Recycling (UK) has filed a notice of intention (NOI) to appoint administrators, a legal process that gives a company a short period of protection from creditors while it tries to secure a rescue deal.
Bridgnorth Aluminium has had a strong recovery in 2024, with turnover rising to nearly £230m and a marked improvement in performance across the business.
The company, based out of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, is the UK’s only fully integrated producer of flat rolled aluminium coils for customers around the world. It has reported a 9% rise in sales in the 2024 financial year, despite challenging trading conditions.
