MANUFACTURING CASE STUDIES
 ND PRECISION PRODUCTS
INVESTMENT IS KEY – ANOTHER TWO MACHINES KEEP NICK AND HIS TEAM AHEAD
Manufacturing Solutions exhibitor ND Precision Products continues its commit- ment to invest in the latest equipment to ensure service to its customers.
Earlier this year its MD Nick Squire attended the XYZ Machine Tools Open Day and came away with two new machines!
He purchased an XYZ KMX2 SLV 2 Axis CNC Turret Mill with a ProtoTRAK KMX Control (pictured), and also an XYZ1224 Surface grinder fitted with programmable automatic incremental downfeed.
These two new machines will be a great addition to the plant list that ND Precision Products already has and provide an upgrade to some of the older equipment.
Nick strongly believes that investment is key
to remaining at the forefront of industry development and that is why year on year he ensures that he keeps updating the machinery to ensure that ND Precision Products always has new machinery capa-
ble of assisting with those difficult jobs.
Accredited to ISO 9001, ND Precision Products is a member of the GTMA and WEAF (West of England Aerospace Forum). The company offers a full service package, which includes 3D CAD/CAM software to design and develop tools and components, precision machining with raw material procurement where required, gauge manufacture, and tool repairs / modifications.

 ALICONA
AUTOMATED SURFACE METROLOGY IS GOOD FOR SMALL BATCHES
Alicona, the market leader in Optical Metrology and 3D Surface Metrology, has increased its surface metrology range with an automated measurement solution based on its range of measurement systems.
This automated system allows measure- ments to be made without human interven- tion and variability, thus ensuring consistent, accurate and traceable results. Users have rights to control users to specific tasks.
The cobot software is integrated into the Alicona automation manager providing seamless programming for the measure- ment task. As the collaborative robot can be manually moved it allows the measure- ment cycle to be easily programmed in the “teach” mode, then the program can be stored for later users.
The “fingers” of the cobot are designed for each of the components and can be easily changed when different components are
required to be measured. The results can be compared against CAD data, or a gold- en product, and the user can be presented with a go-no go result via a traffic light dis- play system.
Components that fail or pass the inspection criteria are placed in appropriate racks to either continue the process or be returned for re-work or for scrap where necessary.
In conjunction with the InfiniteFocus SL the system can be used to measure features,
such as topographic “Z” data, XY data, small radii plus surface finish on part com- ponents. When used with the InfiniteFocus G5, equipped with a rotating platform, cir- cular or cylindrical components can also be measured.
The systems are ideally suited for the in- process measurement of small batches of precision engineered components for geo- metric and surface measurement.
