Now worn tooling repairs benefit from investment policy
Among the leading toolmakers in the GTMA is ND Precision Products – a company which strives to stay at the forefront of industry developments by keeping up with the latest innovations.
It has an established, long retained and experienced workforce which is key to main- taining its position as a highly competitive precision toolmakers service.
Typical of its actions is its recent investment in PolyWorks software and a FARO 3D Laser Scanning Arm with 8-Axis.
The main factor for purchasing this equip- ment and technology was that it offered an all in one solution with the option to use the probe or scanner to inspect components to a high level of accuracy.
The arm can scan to an accuracy of 46 Ìm over 2.5m, however, NDPP has conducted tests with a 100mm slip gauge and has received results of sub 10 Ìm.
NDPP can produce high quality 3D meshes using the laser scanning facility to assist with
the repair of worn tooling. Through this func- tion it is possible to document legacy com- ponents that may not have 3D models, or even a 2D drawing.
Since NDPP acquired the equipment in December 2019 it has proven to be very useful for assisting customers by providing comparison reports between the tool model and the damaged tooling.
This allowed NDPP to quickly identify the areas that required attention, and therefore allowing the repair to be conducted in a timely manner.
Managing Director Nick Squires says: “From a complex multi-cavity mould tool to a simple punch and die set, every enquiry we receive is given a thorough review. We will often go

the extra mile to ensure we offer the cus- tomer an effective solution at the right price.”
Continued investment during uncertain times has helped NDPP continue to provide a high quality service to all customers. At the start of 2019, for example, it invested in two new machines from XYZ Machine Tools: a sur- face grinder fitted with programmable auto- matic incremental downfeed, and a 2 Axis NC turret mill with ProtoTRAK KMX Control.
NDPP offers a full service package, which includes 3D CAD/CAM software to design and develop tools and components, preci- sion machining with raw material procure- ment when required, gauge manufacture, and tool repairs and modifications.
