An original Mazak QUICK TURN 15 machine tool is still going strong after 26 years in continuous production.

The machine, which was the 1,000th machine tool to be manufactured by Mazak at its European manufacturing plant in Worcester, is owned by SECO Tools in Alcester, Warwickshire. The machine was acquired in 1988 and has been making custom tools, such as turned shanks, ever since.

Richard Smith, Manufacturing Manager at SECO Tools.Richard Smith, Manufacturing Manager at SECO Tools commented: “Mazak machines are an important element of our machining capability due to their outstanding reliability and easy programmability. Our QUICK TURN 15 has been in continuous production now for over a quarter of a century and shows no sign of nearing the end of its operational life. We can still get parts for the machine from Mazak and it’s as accurate as it ever was.”

Visitors to SECO Tools’ ‘Inspiration through Innovation’ manufacturing best practice event will be able to see the QUICK TURN 15 in action alongside a new INTEGREX i-100 multi-tasking machine complete with a BARTAC S bar feed system, which offers integrated work unloading and conveyor handling of completed workpieces.

Yamazaki Mazak is one of 17 exhibitors at the upcoming event which will be held at SECO Tools’ UK headquarters in Alcester, Warwickshire from the 24-25 September 2014. The event will cover a range of metalworking disciplines, from automation, through to machine tools, metrology and inspection, and workholding, with live demonstrations and seminars.

Paul Hughes, New Business Development at Yamazaki Mazak, commented. “Mazak machines are built to last. The fact that SECO Tools in Warwickshire is still using one of our original UK-manufactured machines is testament to the outstanding engineering and build quality that is part of our manufacturing culture.”

He continued: “We are delighted to be supporting the SECO Tools ‘Inspiration through Innovation’ manufacturing best practice event and to have the opportunity to showcase more than a quarter of a century of Mazak machine tool technology, from one of our original UK machines through to the latest in multi-tasking technology.”
