Defence giant, BAE Systems, is recruiting more than 1,500 apprentices and graduates across its North of England sites, including Barrow, Brough, Samlesbury, Washington and Warton.
It says the region will benefit from record funding into education, training and skills as the company expects to eclipse £1bn in spending across the UK since the start of the decade.
Underlining the intent to build on strategic partnerships in the Republic of Korea, Babcock has signed two separate agreements with South Korean companies– Hanwha Ocean and Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. – to support the growth of global opportunities.
A Strategic Cooperation Agreement has been penned with Hanwha Ocean, the shipbuilding and offshore company, to further develop opportunities in the global naval market. This agreement outlines our joint aim to deepen cooperation in major global naval procurement projects, including the Polish Orka submarine programme and the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, leveraging our respective strengths to provide tailored solutions for clients throughout the entire lifecycle of naval platforms, from acquisition to operation.
UK defence giant, BAE Systems, Italy’s Leonardo and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co (JAIEC) have reached an agreement to form a new company under a business joint venture for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), subject to regulatory approvals.
The agreement will benefit the region’s industrial base, which is home to significant BAE Systems operations in Lancashire and Cumbria. It also builds on the strong trilateral government, defence, and industrial cooperation between the UK, Japan, and Italy on GCAP since it was established in December 2022.
