Rolls-Royce has strengthened its defence presence in Australia with the opening of a new regional headquarters in Canberra, alongside an expanded manufacturing partnership supporting naval programmes.

The Derby-headquartered engineering group has selected Australian manufacturer Marand Precision Engineering to produce three additional gas turbine acoustic enclosures and ship interface systems for the Type 26 programme.

Marand will manufacture and assemble the systems at its Melbourne facility before supplying them to Rolls-Royce. The work follows a competitive international tender and builds on an existing agreement covering the same equipment for Australia’s Hunter-class Frigate Programme.
