Industrial Metals – Late July 2025

Estimated reading time 1 minute

The University of Birmingham and Brazilian-based CBMM have partnered on a project to ensure the future supply of an important metal which is essential for a carbon recycling technology.

Niobium is a non-critical metal used in a technology that could radically reduce emissions from energy- and carbon-intensive foundation industries.

CBMM, which makes Niobium products, will work with Birmingham researchers led by Professor Yulong Ding to improve the efficiency and develop a cost-effective compound containing Niobium. The compound is used in closed-carbon-loop recycling technology for foundation industries such as steelmaking.
