Sheffield-based precision engineering firm CW Fletcher & Sons Ltd has signed a £7M deal with Japanese firm Kawaksaki Heavy Industries (KHI). The deal involves a three-year export contract with KHI involving the supply of unison ring components for use in Rolls-Royce aero engines and comes after CW Fletcher used NPL’s Product Verification Service, carried out as part of the Sharing in Growth programme (SiG).

SiG is a programme funded through the Regional Growth Fund (RGF), which supports UK aerospace companies to increase productivity and international competitiveness. As part of the programme, each company receives four years of intense training and industry advice from experts such as NPL, followed by investment from the RGF.

NPL has previously worked with CW Fletcher as part of the SiG programme, using its Product Verification Service to improve the company’s application of measurement techniques and reduce costs. This has allowed the company to alleviate significant cost pressure within an increasingly competitive global market.

Managing Director of CW Fletcher, Steve Kirk, said: “This is a very important contract for us. It demonstrates the quality of our work and the skills of our workforce and it will safeguard Sheffield jobs. We are delighted that the Sharing in Growth programme has helped us win export business for Britain.”
