The UK Government has published a 40-step plan to accelerate the delivery of new onshore wind farms, after last year lifting a de-facto ban on projects in England implemented by David Cameron’s Government in 2016.
The new onshore wind plan from the Department for Energy Security and Net-Zero (DESNZ) confirms the Government’s intentions for the UK to host at least 27GW of onshore wind by 2030. A more stretching figure, 29GW, is also floated.
Ministers are notably aiming for 95% of the electricity generation mix to be accounted for by renewables and nuclear by this point. Gas will account for the remainder.
