The monthly survey of construction purchasing managers indicates that industry activity shrank again in September, as it has for every month of 2025 so far.
While latest estimates from the government’s Office for National Statistics show Britain’s construction output growing, the people at S&P Global Market Intelligence who conduct these monthly surveys disagree.
The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) reading for September 2025 was 46.2 – still solidly below the 50.0 no-change mark, but at least marginally up from August’s 45.5 score.
Italian construction materials manufacturer Fassa Bortolo has announced plans to open a new factory at New Stanton Park near Ilkeston, Derbyshire, creating around 100 skilled jobs.
The family-owned company, which has its headquarters in Italy and a turnover of €680 million, is one of Europe’s leading producers of plasters and renders. The new East Midlands site will produce around 300,000 tonnes of pre-mix plasters and renders annually and marks a major investment in the UK market.
