Energy News – Late May 2026

A hydrogen infrastructure that harnesses the South West’s renewable energy potential has come a step closer after a new study showed a transmission network is technically feasible.

The HyLine South West would link production hubs – including those powered by floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea – to high-emission industrial users.  This would include hard-to-abate industries, such as minerals and defence, as a way of helping to decarbonise and support the UK’s net zero targets.

The study for Wales & West Utilities (WWU) concerned the transmission network connecting Exeter, Plymouth and St Austell.
