Hexagon MI Demonstrates Process Expertise at formnext 2017

Virtual Verification and Physical Inspection Solutions for Additive Manufacturing on Show in Frankfurt

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence will exhibit solutions for virtual verification and physical inspection together at formnext 2017, demonstrating how information technology solutions can be used to drive process optimisation and improve the quality of parts produced using additive manufacturing techniques.

formnext is a leading trade fair for additive manufacturing and the next generation of intelligent manufacturing solutions. It focuses on the efficient realisation of parts and products, from design to serial production.

The Hexagon stand at formnext will showcase technologies for part and process optimisation throughout the product lifecycle. Alongside metrology and manufacturing solutions, visitors to the Hexagon stand at formnext will be able to see demonstrations of the Simufact Additive and Digimat AM simulation packages from MSC Software, the computer-aided engineering (CAE) specialist acquired by Hexagon earlier this year. Simufact Additive is a simulation tool for predicting and reducing distortion in powder-bed additive processes commonly used to produce metal parts, while Digimat offers a holistic simulation solution for additive manufacturing of polymers and composites. The stand will also feature portable measurement technologies commonly used to digitise additive manufactured parts during inspection or for reverse engineering, including Hexagon’s articulated arm and optical scanner systems as well as its specialist composite inspection solution.

“The addition of CAE software to the Hexagon portfolio gives us unique capabilities to support customers using additive manufacturing throughout their process, from design and engineering through manufacturing and quality assurance,” said Marcel Brand, Director of Marketing and Communications EMEA at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. “At formnext, we will demonstrate the power of data in improving the process of material selection for 3D printing, process simulation for metal and polymers, printed part performance modelling and the inspection of final parts.”

formnext takes place 14-17 November at Frankfurt Messe, Germany. The Hexagon technology showcase can be found in Hall 3, Stand F27.
