Mazak announces major apprentice intake in 2018

Yamazaki Mazak UK has reaffirmed its commitment to the next generation of engineers by taking on 18 new apprentices in 2018.

The most recent intake of apprentices will start working at Mazak’s European Headquarters in Worcester in September, and will join the existing 48 apprentices who are currently training with Mazak. Since 2011, Mazak has successfully trained 109 apprentices, and the September intake will take this figure to 127.

The 18 apprentices who have been accepted onto the 2018 training programme will be assigned to various departments within Mazak, including production and business support. Five apprentices will be undertaking machining related roles, three will be working in the sheet metal department, six in mechanical roles, three will undergo electrical training and one will join Mazak’s Spindle Service Centre.

All programmes will combine college-based learning with the essential hands-on approach to training. All apprentices will complete an accredited apprenticeship pathway to Level 3 against the new apprenticeship standards. In instances where students excel during their training, a further top-up to HNC/D level will be offered.

Dave Barnett, Learning and Development Manager, at Yamazaki Mazak, commented: “Here at Mazak our apprenticeship programmes offer the flexibility to train a diverse workforce against nationally recognised qualifications.

“Our pledge of continued growth clearly demonstrates our dedication to the next generation of UK manufacturing and we look forward to welcoming the new group of students in September.”
