Estimated reading time 2 minutes

Hundreds of manufacturers across Yorkshire should be able to accelerate their digital transformation after the government confirmed £2.4m worth of new funding for the “Made Smarter” programme from April.

The continuation of the programme unlocks a fresh phase of support for SME manufacturers, combining expert advice, leadership training and digital skills with match-funded grants of up to £20,000.

Together, these interventions are designed to boost productivity, drive innovation, create high-value jobs and support progress towards net zero.

Up to £20m of government funding has been earmarked for advanced manufacturing and clean energy projects across the East Midlands, as part of a wider £500m national programme.

The funding, confirmed by Science and Technology Secretary Liz Kendall, will be delivered through the Local Innovation Partnerships Fund and coordinated locally by the East Midlands Combined County Authority.

The programme, run by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is designed to bring together local authorities, businesses and research organisations to develop commercially viable projects.
