A long-established industrial manufacturer is facing an uncertain future after filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators, TheBusinessDesk.com understands.
Swift and Whitmore has lodged the notice through law firm Addleshaw Goddard, triggering a short period of protection from creditor action while options are explored.
Founded in 1968, the Dudley-based business has grown to become the UK’s largest independent manufacturer and supplier of abrasives, serving customers across a wide range of industrial sectors.
Its client base spans small welding supply firms through to major steel producers and foundry groups, supported by relationships with leading global abrasive product manufacturers.
In its latest available accounts for 2024, Swift and Whitmore employed 29 people.

The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) has signed a collaboration agreement with IPercept Technology AB. It will accelerate the development and industrial adoption of advanced CNC process monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies.
The collaboration brings together IPercept’s intelligent machine monitoring solutions with the AMRC’s research expertise in high-value manufacturing.
As part of the agreement, IPercept will deploy its smart devices and online services on selected CNC machines at the AMRC.
The system provides high-resolution insight into machine behaviour and process stability, enabling continuous condition monitoring of critical components such as axes and spindles.

Enrogen, an East Yorkshire manufacturer of diesel generators, has been sold to a private equity-backed Italian company seeking to increase its UK presence.
Founded in 2005 by Gavin Wilkinson – with James Brown becoming an equal shareholder later in the same year – Enrogen designs, makes, installs and maintains generators for a range of clients, including data centres and the construction and industrial sectors.
Wilkinson and Brown instructed KBS Corporate to explore strategic options for the company, which is based in Pocklington. In a deal led by George Barnes, KBS Corporate associate director, Enrogen was acquired by Visa S.p.A. (Visa).
