Cornwall’s status as a prime source of critical minerals essential to the UK’s energy transition has been boosted by the discovery of much larger deposits of lithium than first thought, according to the founder of a mining company operating in the county.

Sally Norcross-Webb, CEO of Cornish Tin & Lithium, said recent drilling programmes had revealed the “spectacular potential” of the lithium field at Tregonning, near Wadebridge.

The business, which is also working in tin and copper mines at Wheal Vor, near Redruth, said test drilling at Tregonning had also intercepted an extensive new tin system, as well as very successful lithium results.
