Nuclear News – Late June 2026
Rolls-Royce has secured another major boost for its small modular reactor (SMR) business after being selected to deliver three nuclear reactors in Sweden.
The Derby-headquartered engineering giant said its Rolls-Royce SMR division has been chosen by Videberg Kraft as partner for a project on Sweden’s west coast, marking the country’s first new nuclear power station development in more than 40 years.
The agreement follows recent SMR deals in the UK and the Czech Republic and further strengthens Rolls-Royce’s position in the rapidly emerging European market for next-generation nuclear technology.

Rolls-Royce SMR is to open a £12m manufacturing development centre in Derby to support the delivery of its small modular reactor programme in the UK and overseas.
The new facility, called Pioneer Works, will create and sustain around 40 highly skilled jobs spanning advanced engineering, welding, testing and precision assembly.
Due to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, the site will be the first manufacturing development centre established by Rolls-Royce SMR and will develop the processes and technologies needed to deliver reactor projects in the UK, Czechia and Sweden.
Pioneer Works will be a non-nuclear site focused on specialist engineering and manufacturing activities required for the deployment of the company’s first power plants. Sourced from The Business Desk
