The government has confirmed a preferred bidder has been identified for Speciality Steel UK (SSUK).
Until last summer, SSUK was owned by metals tycoon Sanjeev Gupta’s Liberty Steel empire.
The business fell into compulsory liquidation in August last year. SSUK runs steelworks in Rotherham and Stocksbridge in South Yorkshire, and employed around 1,500 people when it collapsed last summer.
