Carrs Toolsteel Technologies

Carrs Tool Steel Technologies stock, cut and supply the latest technology tool-making materials from the world’s leading producers. All material can also be supplied precision milled to customers’ requirements.

Over 95% of the tool steel used in the UK was developed in the early years of the last century. The use of new improved tool steels, can both increase productivity and reduce costs, not only of the tool making process but, also production cost per part.

As well as conventionally manufactured steels Carrs are pleased to offer a range of Powder metallurgy steels, as well as matrix high speed steels

Carrs has detailed case-studies that clearly show what its customers have achieved. For example: a 30% reduction in time to produce tooling compared with P20, up to 50% better machinability than D2 and twice the toughness (great for EDM) and more than twice the life of M42 thread rolling dies.

PRECISION SIX FACE MILLED BLOCKS ALUMINIUM

Further cost reductions and productivity improvements are offered to customers by way of recent investments of over £500,000 in our purpose built milling machines, these allow CarrsToolsteel Technologies to offers its full range of tool steel qualities finish-milled on all six faces to fine tolerances and at economic prices. Customers will be able to order to their exact size requirements and the company aims to maintain its existing rapid turn-around of orders.

Andrew Eastwood, Carrs’ MD says “we can do in minutes what it would take an hour or more to machine on conventional equipment! This should be a real benefit for our customers. These machines are the first of their type to be installed in Europe.”

Material can be supplied milled from 10mm top and bottom to 180 X 450 X 450 to a tolerance of –0+0.1mm and squareness of 0.1mm per metre.
