Customer service is a priority for Ceratizit UK & Ireland and this has been enhanced increasing its applications sales engineering team. Six new Applications Sales Engineers have been recruited, bringing the total to 12. Based around the country they actively support customers to ensure they are maximising their productivity through correct tooling selection and use. They can also provide support for Ceratizit UK & Ireland’s team of 18 Technical Sales Engineers, providing an added level of technical expertise, calling on the 60,000 plus products in the Ceratizit catalogue where needed.
Ceratizit continues to develop new products, further enhancing its reputation of delivering high quality products to meet modern manufacturing demands. Included in these is the innovative MaxiMill – Slot-SX grooving and slotting milling system. Developed from the existing grooving inserts from its SX system the new MaxiMill – Slot SX can be used across a wide range of materials, covering almost everything under ISO P/M/K/N/S categories. Customers can select from standard DIN connections, threads or shell mill adapters, making the cutters compatible with all machining centres, milling and turning machines.
A key feature of MaxiMill – Slot SX is the addition of internal coolant supply up to cutter diameter 250 mm, which bring significant advantages in these applications. Potential damage to cutter or component is eliminated therefore extending tool life, along with time savings gained by not having to manually remove swarf. These issues are compounded the deeper a slot or part off operation goes.
One other aspect of MaxiMill -Slot SX that elevates it above its competitors is its ease of use for the operator when it comes to insert changes, here MaxiMill – Slot SX makes use of Ceratizit’s patented SX Clamping Key when changing inserts. The SX Clamping Key reduces insert change times, while ensuring the correct clamping force to eliminate the risk of overtightening, stressing or deforming the insert seat, guaranteeing that the insert is secure in a precise and stable position.
With a diameter range of 0.5 mm to 60 mm the new MicroKom – hi.flex-micro precision adjustment head from Ceratizit is ideal for precision boring small diameters. The system delivers precision in terms of positional accuracy, cylinder shape, roundness and surface quality. Upgrades see significantly reduced dimensions compared to the original hi.flex and optimisation for µm-precise diameters in the smallest diameter range, with adjustment accuracy of 0.002 mm (in diameter) with an adjustment range of up to 5 mm in diameter. For ease of use only one key is required for clamping, setting or adjusting and, for assembling the serrated body and insert holder. Through coolant is supplied directly to the cutting edge across all diameter ranges.
Due to its favourable mass ratio and the symmetrically balanced design, spindle speeds up to 30,000 rpm can be achieved, with the radially positioned balancing threads contributing to this. With high speed and balancing being absolute pre-requisites for drilling the smallest of diameters hi.flex-micro precision adjustment head delivers in full. And added advantage is that the range also includes boring bar adapters for using the UltraMini and EcoCut boring bars for the smallest diameter range. Other accessories such as boring bars with indexable inserts, serrated bodies, insert holders, and custom boring bars adapted for the individual application as a semi-standard, round off the overall package.
Workholding has also seen upgrades, with the popular ZSG 4 Centric Vices system being developed to improve performance, ease of use and durability. Available in widths of 80 mm, 150 mm and 160 mm, these vices now feature a stainless steel body and a fully encapsulated spindle for extended life and reduced maintenance. Activation screws on the larger 80 mm and 125 mm variants have been relocated to eliminate interference and also reduce potential wear and tear. Increased efficiency comes in many forms and with the ZSG 4 laser etched information on the vice body plays a role. These marks clearly identify the zero point and centre point, making it even easier to position the workpiece. Additionally, each vice has a QR code etched onto it, scanning this will give the user direct access to helpful videos and operating instructions.
The ZSG 4 vices are suitable for gripping any material – from plastic to aluminium and hardened materials (up to HRC 58). They achieve this without the need for any additional operations, such as time-consuming pre-stamping, with a minimum grip of just 3 mm of material. Process security is provided by the large clamping forces of up to 25 kN with the ZSG 4 80 mm, 35 kN for the ZSG 4 125 mm and 50 kN with ZSG 4 160 mm.
