CSS Group is a privately owned business based in Paignton, Devon and comprises of three businesses – Investment Casting Systems Ltd – World Class Tool Makers, and Casting Support Systems Ltd – Large Scale Injection Moulding – bringing flexible solutions to material handling challenges, and Technical Composite Systems Ltd, Solutions in advanced composite materials.
All three companies have grown from small beginnings – founded on a passion for engineering, manufacturing and customer service – and continue to grow in size and capability, offering a comprehensive solution for engineering and manufacturing. As the CSS group is based in the same location they can work independently or complimentary to one another depending on the project.
Investment Casting Systems Ltd (ICS)
As the world class accredited toolmaking arm of the group, ICS specialise in metallic tooling, fixtures and components, supplying direct to customers or the other CSS group companies.
Our portfolio demonstrates extensive experience in all stages of the tooling process from concept design, design for manufacture (DFM), prototype tooling through to volume production solutions. Working closely with our customers from the early stage in a project, we contribute significant value to the process and take ownership of the tooling right through to validation and sign off. We can also provide a straight forward “build to print” service if required.
Significant investment has recently been made in new machine tools and facilities to support the growing demand for large mould tools for aerospace composite components and injection moulded products. ICS has recently moved into a dedicated manufacturing facility with a floor space of over 14,000 square feet and 4000 square feet of office and conference room facilities.
Our mould tool manufacturing capability is second to none with 9 VMC’s including %axis, large bridge mills (3.2M X 2.1M X 1.0M) and high speed machining centres. We have also invested in mill turns, CNC EDM and grinding machines as well as one of the largest CNC CMM machines in the area. This offers a highly flexible and capable machining service to our customers backed up by a comprehensive scheduling and resource allocation system.

Utilising the aerospace accreditations, ICS also manages the manufacture of aerospace injection moulded products within the CSS Group. Over 90% of our aerospace injection moulding business is an end to end service for our customers – design through to tooling to validation to volume production. We deliver in In excess of 15 million aerospace parts every year. Thermoplastic materials processes range from polystyrene, nylon, PEI (Ultem), and filled PEEK compounds.
Casting Support Systems ltd (CSS)
CSS conducts trade moulding as well as manufacturing its own range of tote bins marketed under the Versatote brand, CSS has the capacity to produce up to 1 million tote bins per year which are primarily used in automated warehousing and distribution systems all over the world.
We supply an expanding and loyal customer base; repeatedly returning to us, safe in the knowledge that we deliver to the exacting standards, in full and on time. Our extensive range of injection moulding machines (from 22 ton lock through 1000 ton lock)
are complimented by finishing operations including hot foil decoration, ultrasonic welding, assembly and packing.
Technical Composite Systems Ltd (TCS)
Technical Composite Systems (TCS) offers a complete composite
Manufacturing solution for high quality composite components across a diverse range of industries. We specialise in supplying the international aerospace and defence community by combining engineering experience and material expertise with a customer focused culture. TCS offers a variety of manufacturing solutions depending on technical and commercial requirements; these include autoclave cure, out of autoclave processes – ovens and resin injection, compression moulding, CMM inspection, painting coating and surface treatments.
We have a great deal of experience in handling and processing a wide range of composite raw materials, ranging from Carbon, Glass and Kevlar reinforcements to Epoxy, Cyanate-Ester, Vinyl-ester and polyester resins. Cored structures incorporating honeycomb or structural foam are manufactured and w e can provide a solution to achieve the compromise of cost, technicality, manufacturability and volume.
Working in partnership with the other CSS Group companies, TCS offers a comprehensive technical solution for composite structures, underpinned with an approachable workforce operating in a positive and proactive environment.
