What is Surface Technology?
Surface Technology refers to the processes, materials, and equipment used to modify or enhance the surface properties of a material—usually to improve its appearance, durability, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or functional performance.
What types of materials can be powder coated?
Most metal substrates—such as steel, aluminium, and galvanised steel—can be powder coated. Some heat-resistant composites and MDF can also be coated using specialized low-temperature powders. Plastics generally require specialty formulations or are not suitable due to curing temperature requirements.
What’s the difference between powder coating and liquid paint?
Powder coating is a solvent-free, dry finishing process that offers:
- Higher durability
- Thicker, more uniform coverage
- Better environmental compliance (no VOCs)
Liquid paint may be better for extremely large items, highly heat-sensitive materials, or complex colour matches.
