Strong links with Brooklands College
Physical Digital is proud to have links with both local and UK engineering students. Past projects include supporting Liverpool University Motorsport team’s bid to win the UK Formula Student Event in early July. We have also offered placements to selected engineering students, giving them an insight into the highly technical and interesting world of 3D scanning and reverse engineering.
Now we are pleased to have strengthened our links with Brooklands College Engineering Department. Daniel Lainchbury, our Senior Applications Engineer, met an enthusiastic audience of BSc Engineering students when he visited the college last week to give a lecture on metrology and to demonstrate the capabilities of our GOM 3D non-contact scanning systems.

Leading-edge 3D measurement
For the students, this was a practical introduction into the world of metrology and the newest technologies we use to capture the highest accuracy measurement data which is so critical for a wide range of industries and applications. Daniel was able to demonstrate how quickly and accurately our expert team gains crucial measurement data when he scanned a car panel for the students.
Dan commented: ‘It is always good to share new technology with young engineers and to help them make the link between theory and practice. The students were inquisitive about our measurement systems and keen to talk about how they might apply the knowledge they have gained within their own projects.’
The budding engineers at Brooklands are putting their best minds to work on the Shell Ecomarathon challenge later in the summer and Physical Digital wishes the team every success in their endeavours.
The afternoon was organised by Andrew Errington, Lecturer in Engineering on the College’s degree programme. To find out more about the engineering courses at Brooklands College, visit: Brooklands College Engineering
