Conventional Precision Machining
Precision machining is a process of shaping large masses of material into smaller, more intricate parts. There are three principal machining processes; turning, drilling, and milling.
The precision machining process involves a cutting tool that removes material from the workpiece. In order for the cutting tool to do its job, it must be moved in directions specified to make the correct cut. This primary motion is called the ‘cutting speed’. The workpiece can also be moved, known as the secondary motion of ‘feed’. Together, these motions and the sharpness of the cutting tool allow the precision machine to operate.
GTMA’s Supplier Directory provides companies that offer a multitude of precision machining services from thread grinding and die sinking, to horizontal milling and optical profile grinding.
Today, through computer automation, CNC precision machining is more accurate than it ever was before. The machines are controlled using computers so that there is almost no room for error. The fact that designs can also be fed into computers and transmitted automatically to the machining process has also greatly increased precision.
